Messages. 37. Apr 11, 2018 / John Deere 165 will not crank wiring diagram. #1. I picked up a JD 165 at a yard sale. It's pretty rough but I'd like to get it going. It will crank if I cross the hot lead on the started with the switched lead. It will not crank with the key. I replaced the ignition switch, as there was no key either.
There should also be a section devoted to trouble shooting, especially the PTO. The PTO maybe drawing too much current thru a too small a switch. The PTO maybe on the way out (failing), too. If the harness is failing to the PTO, cheapest method is to run 2 separate wires bypassing the bad section. I can get it started by jumping the solenoid (I know the solenoid needs replaced) however the blades will not engage when the PTO switch is pulled up.
