I saw a Marlin 1897 Texan at an lgs yesterday. Looks like a 20 " octagon barreled 39A takedown. They were available in 1997 as a commemorative. This one is a shooter. Asking was $650. Had safety. I am not familiar with the 39A and have a question. When tilted up the firing pin would slide back.The Model 39 is designed to not hurt it's self when dry fired. However, we are talking about beating on those parts with a hammer. Literally. My worry is that some day, some how, the firing pin stop will wear enough to allow contact with the chamber. Mar 5, 2009 · Easy fix. Break down the receiver, pull the bolt and the firing pin is in plain view laying in a groove along the top of the bolt. Remove the old broken firing pin, clean the groove and put in a bit of lube. Then, lay in a new firing pin and reassemble. And go shooting!!!! Marlin M39s are a fabulous .22 rifle.
