How to replace the string in a weed eater.
Hold the head steady with one hand while you unscrew the bump knob with the other. Remove the knob and the cover from the head. Then remove the string spool from the cover. Remove the old string and clean the inside of the cover and the spool with a rag. Check the indexing teeth for wear, and if necessary, replace the spool or cover.
