That works with items placed on a table, items on the ground you click to pick up, crop harvesting, etc. The bug is inherent in the way multiplayer works, so it's unlikely to ever be fixed.

It's a well-known issue that, if I recall correctly, would require overhauling way too much to fix. It's just an artifact of how it was coded because of delays between the two computers talking to each other. Abuse it if you want, or don't. There are bigger and better glitches to get way more stuff than this glitch could ever accomplish.
