Same issue it got really gummy .and if used in the rain the gun would turn from black to a milky gray . I used a scotch bite pad and rubbing alchol to remove the dura touch . Like.Allow proper distance (eye relief) between a scope and your eye when firing a scoped rifle, shotgun or pistol. This got me to thinking about the Browning A5 's and Remington Model 11's I have looked at in the past and have noticed that more of the A5's are cracked than the Model 11's. The Remington 48 Sportsman is a nice gun but it does not have the speed load feature and magazine cutoff that Browning introduced on the Auto 5 circa 1953. I have no clue why Val Browning didn’t redesign the Auto-5 to fix these problems because he lived for over four decades after the 1148 came out and it would have been a fairly easy fix.

As others have told you, the gun may be dirty, need lubrication, or have the friction pieces adjusted. Usually an Auto-5 with those problems will still cycle stout hunting loads.
