I had to go buy 3" screws (10-32) to make my kwikset deadbolt work on a 2 1/8" thick door. The little extension piece was not necessary and was the wrong size on both ends. The screws included in the kit were shorter than the ones I got with the lock. Moral of the story, If you have a thick door, go to the hardware store and buy longer screws.
The interior turn-piece should remain horizontal when unlocked and vertical when in the locked position. If it has some play in it, the turn-piece might be loose.
