Im doing a valve adjustment on a newer Chevy with a 350 in it and ran into a problem (I think). Its a roller cam w/ hydraulic roller lifters ...Adjusting valves on a hydraulic camshaft. It should be high when its cold, but hot pressures should be 15-20 at idle and up to 70 at higher RPMs. If its below 12 or so at idle and below 50 at redline, its on the verge of being too low and probably the cause for your ticking valves.

For hydraulic, you are right - tighten to 0 clearance as indicated by lifting the rocker up and down at the valve, until movement stops, then go another 1/4 to 1/2 turn. 1/2 turn is recommmnded for low perf and stock rebuilds. Make sure the lock nuts still grip tight, as it should take maybe 5-10 ft lb to make them turn.
